Who knew that a fashion statement could be an act of racism?
Not High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens, apparently.
The gorgeous girl posted an Instagram pic that shows her sporting a Native American dreamcatcher.
Of course, that’s a major faux pas because CULTURAL APPROPRIATION!!1!1!1!!!
And yes, it’s still “cultural appropriation” even though Hudgens is part Native American.
Why? Because somebody said so. That’s all that matters.
Here’s what one classy commenter wrote: “Fuck you Vanessa Hudgens for cultural appropriation.”
Clearly, that one going to make a great wife some day.
And another: “This is not the first time she has done this either. Even though she is part Native American using a dreamcatcher as ‘hair jewelry’ is not done. If someone can tell me a tribe who does it I will take it back.”
Maybe that last crackpot should first find out if any tribe does it before assuming that poor Vanessa is being an insensitive bee-yotch.
There is some good news to come out of this, though. Even though Hudgens is part of the entertainment-industrial complex, she doesn’t appear to be caving in and issuing the required apologies.
Shortly after posting the first pic of her wearing the dreamcatcher, she posted another one.
Well done, Vanessa.
