Here’s some news that might make Beyoncé happy, but disappoint normal people.
Gun deaths among law enforcement personnel skyrocketed this year, thanks to a number police officer deaths last week.
During a four-day period last week, at least five cops were killed. Among them:
- A Colorado sheriff’s deputy was fatally shot on Monday
- Two Maryland deputies were killed on Wednesday
- Cops in Georgia and North Dakota were killed last week
According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, 11 officers have been killed on duty so far this year.
Although the number of cops killed was higher last year by this time, more of those officers died in traffic-related deaths. If you just count gun-related deaths, the number increases by 700 percent.
The National Sheriff’s Association, unsurprisingly, isn’t one bit happy with Beyoncé in the wake of this news. The organization condemned the “senseless killing” of cops “on the heels of the anti-police ‘entertainment’ at the Sunday Super Bowl halftime show – reminds us that the men and women in law enforcement take a solemn oath that includes putting their lives on the line every day to protect our citizens.”
The group wants people to wear blue on Friday to demonstrate solidarity with law enforcement.
