The numbers are in and Trump really doesn’t make that much of a difference when it comes to debate viewership.
ABC scored 13.2 million viewers for Saturday night’s GOP debate that included Donald J. Trump. That’s just 700,000 more viewers than the earlier Fox News debate without Trump.
Devotees of the Donald assured us that the Fox debate crowd was “cut in half” because only 12.5 million viewers watched it, versus the more than 20 million viewers who watched the first debate last year.
That narrative is like nailing Jell-O to a wall. It ain’t gonna stick.
At best, Trump only added 700,000 viewers to the debate. The reality is that the number of viewers was still “cut in half” from the all-time high of last year.
So it looks like Trump isn’t that big of a draw after all.
